Department of Secondary Education

The division of secondary education offers Bachelor of Science Degree in three disciplines. They are English, History and Mathematics. Each degree granting program contains minor program with the exception of mathematics. Student Majoring in English can minor only in History and student majoring in History can minor in English only while Mathematics major can either minor in Biology or Physics.

To acquire bachelor degree in secondary education, a prospective graduate much complete the required credit hours in the followings: general education 48 credit hours minimum, professional education 37 credit hours, major contents 36 credit hours, minor contents 14 credit hours minimum and elective 9 credit hours with a GPA of 2.00 or above and have earned a minimum of 145 credit hours. A prospective graduate must maintain grade “C” or above.  However, a single “D” grade in any of the general education required course and professional course apart from English and math will be qualified for graduation.

The general education requirements are general university required courses for all college students enrolled at the university. However, students majoring in mathematics are exempted from PHSC 101, PHSC 102, MATH 101, and MATH 102 but required to do BIOL 101, BIOL 102, MATH 107, and MATH 108. It is incumbent upon all secondary division students to complete the professional education requirements which are designed to ensure the enhancement of teacher’s every day management of instruction.
