Department of Secondary Education
The division of secondary education offers Bachelor of Science Degree in three disciplines. They are English, History and Mathematics. Each degree granting program contains minor program with the exception of mathematics. Student Majoring in English can minor only in History and student majoring in History can minor in English only while Mathematics major can either minor in Biology or Physics.
To acquire bachelor degree in secondary education, a prospective graduate much complete the required credit hours in the followings: general education 48 credit hours minimum, professional education 37 credit hours, major contents 36 credit hours, minor contents 14 credit hours minimum and elective 9 credit hours with a GPA of 2.00 or above and have earned a minimum of 145 credit hours. A prospective graduate must maintain grade “C” or above. However, a single “D” grade in any of the general education required course and professional course apart from English and math will be qualified for graduation.
The general education requirements are general university required courses for all college students enrolled at the university. However, students majoring in mathematics are exempted from PHSC 101, PHSC 102, MATH 101, and MATH 102 but required to do BIOL 101, BIOL 102, MATH 107, and MATH 108. It is incumbent upon all secondary division students to complete the professional education requirements which are designed to ensure the enhancement of teacher’s every day management of instruction.

Majoring English and Minoring in History
Students majoring in English are restricted to minor in history. This is a required course for all students regardless of discipline. This course is 80% practical oriented and is focused on data processing using spreadsheet. It provides students hands-on training in electronic spreadsheet using MS Excel 2010. PHSC 101 Physical Science 3 CREDITS
A study of physical universe, Ptolemy hypothesis, copemicus and Keller, motion, the laws of motion, gravitation, discovery of Neptune and Pluto, energy, work, power, momentum, angular, heat changes of states; matter in bulk, solids, gases, pressure, gas law, atoms and molecules, the kinetic molecular theory of matter, wave motion and sound, electricity and magnetism.
PHSC 102 Physical Science 3 CREDITS
Pre-requisite PHSC 102
A study of atomic structure, the nucleus, theory of atom, the reactions, oxidation, and reduction, organic chemistry, earth materials, sun, stars, and universe as well as the atmosphere.
PHYS 103 General Physics I 3 Credits
Pre-requisite PHYS 102
Topic to be completed include heat and thermodynamics, coulomb’s law, the electric field, ampere’s law and the magnetic field introduction to Maxwell’s equation, Direction Current and Alternating Current (DC and AC Circuits)
PHYS 104 General Physic II 3 Credits
Pre-requisite PHYS 103
A course that leads students to the study of basic principles that required them do math. It is a course that requires a study in quantitative study of physics. Topics to cover include Newton’s laws of motion, Newton’s law of Universal Gravity, Momentum and its conservation, properties of matter, heat and thermodynamics.
PHYS 201 Mechanics 4 Credits
Prerequisite PHYS 104
Introduces the basic concept of mechanics general motion, Newton’s law of motion, principles of bodes at rest and in motion, fluids, vibrations, waves, sound, and thermodynamics.
PHYS 202 Basic Concepts of Electricity and Magnetism 4 Credits
Prerequisite MATH 202 and PHYS 201
Topics to cover include: vector analysis to electrostatics, magnetaslatics, multiple fields, current, dielectric theory and Maxwell’s equations.
ROTC 101 Reserved Officer Training Corps I 0.5 CREDITS
This course provides basic knowledge and history of Liberia military including drill and ceremony.
ROTC 102 Reserved Officer Training Corps II 0.5 CREDITS
Advanced knowledge of Liberia Military, structure, types of uniforms, dress code, ranks, insignia, when and where to salute superior officer; military chain of command, general orders, the eleven general orders; importance of uniform code of Military Justice (UCMJ)
SOSC 102 Introduction to Social Science 3 CREDITS
This course covers the development of man, and human society, culture, evolution of man, concepts of status and role; the concept of family and marriage, structure of society and social institutions.
SOSC 201 The Liberian Society 3 CREDITS
This course studies the social, economic, demographic, and political institutions of Liberia. Emphasis is placed on the population, the powers and political structure at various cultural groups in the Liberian Society.
